Family Home Evening

We attempted to go to the Church History Museum to look at the scouting exhibit, but the museum had closed early.  Instead we went on a tour of the Conference Center.

"Sorry, but what is September 11th; I don't remember anything about it?"

Monday night for FHE Joshua was sharing a lesson about service. He told how his scout troop repaired the flags and poles that the neighborhood uses each holiday. Brad then commented that there had previously been a discussion in Priesthood meeting about putting up the flags on September 11th, since that day had not previously been a day when the flags were put up around the neighborhood by the scouts, and that the flags SHOULD be flown and it was a day that we should remember and reflect on. Noah then raised his hand and said something like "Sorry, but what is September 11th ; I don't remember anything about it." All of us in the room older than Noah looked at each other with a solemn look, and I began to get tears in my eyes- I couldn't even say anything. Sure enough, Noah had just turned two years old when the events of September 11th 2001 unfolded...there wasn't much chance that he would have remembered anything from a first hand account. Of course he has heard over and over "September 11th" mentioned in conversations and news stories, but he didn't really know what that meant.
After a short pause, Brad began to explain what happened on that day in history and why it is important to remember it. Noah asked question after question until he was satisfied that he understood and by then about 20-30 minutes had passed. It is hard to think that as time goes by, more and more people may not remember or know much about what happened on September 11, 2001- they can only see documentaries or read news stories about it. I hope that I continue to have that twinge in my heart each time that that date is mentioned...because I think that it is important to remember.

The game of Love

Monday, June 9th:
Joshua decided that we would play tennis for our Family Night Activity. We aren't the best at the game, but we had fun.
